The Mercato is a condominium within The Village at Grand Traverse Commons Site Condominium Development (“The Village”), thus a condominium within a site condominium. The Mercato Condominium section of Building 50 of the Grand Traverse Commons is a mixed use (residential/commercial) building with private Units on three floors (2-4) and an array of businesses on the Garden level and 1st floor.
Mercato Is…
a growing community within the Village at The Grand Traverse Commons
the Italian word for market
a place to live, work, shop, eat, gather
a neighborhood of residents, merchants and businesses
a section of Building 50, a 3 story building containing 386,740 square feet of space.
Building 50 took 2 years to build and opened in 1885 as The Northern Michigan Asylum for the Insane. Traverse City State Hospital closed in 1989 and was not in use until 2000. With strong community support and the vision of Ray Minervini, this historic site has been redeveloped into the Village at the Grand Traverse Commons.
